Soup's Up... Naturally Sweet & Creamy Courgette Soup

Soup's Up... Naturally Sweet & Creamy Courgette Soup

You say zucchini, I say courgette. Actually, I also say green marrow, but those are my S African roots showing...

Love Me Some Zucchini Soup!

Or courgette. Whatever you want to call them, this soup is damned tasty. It's naturally creamy and ever so slightly sweet, the way veggies sweeten up when roasting. It's very pleasant on the taste buds and very little fuss to make. So make a big pot and serve up a lovely hot bowl of soup as a starter, veggie side or snack. While you're at it, throw a few portions in the freezer to enjoy later as well.

Going Crackers Over Here...

Yes. I made crackers. Tasty crackers. Tasty with cheese crackers. Tasty with hummus crackers. Tasty with water crackers. They're Rosemary Oat Crackers

Rosemary is one of my favourite flavours and I've always enjoyed crackers flavoured by it. These were so simple to make, and they're perfect for clean re-feeds if you make sure to use gluten free oats. Or, even to help with daily carbs! Not overly processed, and they pack a bit of fibre too.

Strangely light and flaky, these are going to become a regularly baked food in my kitchen!

Happy baking!

Yogurt, Yoghurt... It's All Greek Yoghurt to Me

This is one of my favourite afternoon snacks, and best of all, it doesn't feel like it's all super healthy. I look forward to eating it, and the fact that it fits my macros without any sacrifice elsewhere is awesome.

Thick Greek yoghurt with a bit of vanilla whey protein for flavour and the extra protein hit, plus juicy berries of your choice which are naturally a lower carb option. Then to top it off, for both flavour and texture, toasted almond flakes.

Takes less than a minute to prepare, and it's great for when you're on-the-go. So follow this link to check it out.

Snack time!

Moving Picture. AKA. Video.

You know I shoot/edit/do wonders with video, right?

What do you mean no?

Okay, sorry, so far there's actually only one video that's relevant to my Disciplined side, but if you missed it, have a lookie here:

Be Disciplined...

Welcome to the dark side! Actually, no, that's not right. Welcome to the Disciplined side of What the Fruitcake?! where the humour is darker but the food is lighter ;)

So what's the deal?

I love cooking food. I love baking food. I love eating food. Sadly, all of this has made me fat. No surprises there.

In an attempt to get my eating habits in line with my goals, I thought it might be a good idea to have something else to blog about other than cakes and whatnot. Not that I'm going to stop blogging those kinds of recipes, they will just be housed over on the Decadent side of things, and hopefully, the Disciplined side will help me find a balance between my two sides. Jekyll and Hyde, so to speak.

As you can see, the recipe list on this side is very short, but like any new blog, it has to start somewhere.

And if you're wondering what sort of recipes you'll be finding here, they don't fit any particular eating trend or diet fad. Some of them may be Paleo, purely by chance, some of them may be no-carb, no-sugar or even gluten free, but again, purely by chance. The aim of these recipes is to help me stick to my own eating plan, so you'll find some of them will fit in with yours, and some of them won't.

So if you're just starting out on your own fitness routine, get advice from your own trainer/coach/doctor/whatever to see if any of the recipes here are suitable for you. If you've been training a while, you know exactly what you need to know, so I trust you'll pick, choose and alter recipes as you see fit.
